Sprava – od iskanja resnice do redukcije resnic / Reconciliation – from seeking a truth to reduction of truths

Transitional justice refers to the mechanisms by which society, after prolonged internal conflicts, the end of an authoritarian regime, war or fundamental political changes, addresses human rights violations of the previous regime and ensures peace and coexistence in the future.

75 years after the end of the Second World War, 30 years after the declaration of Slovenian independence and almost 20 years after the end of all post-Yugoslav conflicts, we will talk about the role of truth in transitional justice processes, the plurality of truths as a precondition for reconciliation, the possibility and problems of “reconciliation”, the complexity of the forms of involvement in violence, gendered perspective of post-conflict transitions and about political discourses and stakeholders at the level of states, civil society, political parties and “ordinary” individuals. We will place the situation in the region in a broader global context and indicate the consequences of transitional justice and historical revisionism, which are reflected in the one-dimensional reduction of biographies, events and social processes, normativisation of history and relativization of both – justice and truth.
