Whose crisis? Whose truth? / Čigava kriza? Čigava resnica?

We are often told we are living in a ‘post-truth’ era, with rampant misinformation and mistrust of official narratives. But is this really new? And if so: new for whom? In this talk I will discuss the ways in which the “post-truth” era is characterised not by a failure of expertise or of science, but of governance. It represents the final collapse of a society that has always traded stability for violence. By looking not at how truth is destabilised now, but how it was forcibly stabilised in the past, I challenge the idea that a solution is to be found in reinforcing traditional institutions of knowledge. Instead, I argue, the need is for more widespread and fundamental changes in how we organise science, society and the relations between people and communities.
