Aleš Završnik je doktoriral iz kriminologije na Pravni fakulteti Univerze v Ljubljani. Ukvarja se z učinki informacijske tehnologije na nadzorovanje in kriminaliteto. Raziskuje vpliv sodobnih tehnologij in sprememb nadzora na temeljne človekove pravice in svoboščine.

Je avtor številnih del o rabi velikega podatkovja, algoritmov in umetne inteligence v kazenskem pravu. Pred kratkim je uredil knjigo Big Data, Crime and Social Control (Routledge, 2018) in objavil nekaj člankov o kazenskem pravosodju, umetni inteligenci in človekovih pravicah (npr. v European Journal of Criminology, 2019).

Na Inštitutu za kriminologijo vodi raziskovalno skupino Avtomatizirana pravičnost: družbeni, etični in pravni vidiki (2018-21).

Aleš Završnik obtained a PhD in Criminology from the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. He researches the effects of information technology on control and criminality and explores the impact of modern technologies and transformations in control on fundamental human rights and freedoms.

He is an author of numerous works on the use of big data, algorithms and artificial intelligence in criminal law. Recently, he edited the book Big Data, Crime and Social Control (Routledge, 2018) and he published several articles on criminal justice, artificial intelligence and human rights (for example, in the European Journal of Criminology, 2019).

At the Institute of Criminology, he leads the research group Automated Justice: Social, Ethical, and Legal Aspects (2018-21).
