Izzivi biometrije in obraznega prepoznavanja / Challenges of Biometrics and Facial Recognition

In some major cities, LED screens already contain facial recognition mechanisms, some of them have already been personalized. Apple has enabled the iPhone X to unlock the phone through facial recognition. Despite the claims that the technology incorporates many safeguards, there remains a big concern that a widespread use of facial recognition might normalise the technology and enable its wider use. All these technological possibilities and manners of use raise questions about the use of facial recognition technology in advertising, on the labor market, in border control, asylum procedures, and political campaigns. The question is, to what extent do advertisers and others in Slovenia already use this technology, and to what extent this is employed in public spaces (concerts, outdoor events, police cameras).
